This project is aimed at improving the livelihoods and quality of life of the women members of 75 SHG in 23 villages are benefiting in Srinagar P.Samiti of Ajmer.

The project design is based on the recent successful experiences of BAIF in implementing poverty alleviation projects (using The Jana Utthan concept) in the rural districts of Rajasthan e.g. Udaipur, Banswara etc. This approach has also been successfully utilized in 9 different project areas in 4 other states of India and has helped to change the lives of at least 34,000 rural households.

The implementation approach of the project emphasizes the importance of promoting grass roots Self Help Groups (SHG’s), which are the vehicle for the planning and implementation of the project to begin with. These SHG’s are expected to provide the representative forum for the community to pilot the development process in medium to long term. These SHG’s will help the community to link up with and participate in the Panchayati Raj institutions.

The resultant drought proofing and increase in water availability, vegetative cover; biomass availability etc will be the basis for increased agriculture, horticulture and livestock production, which will drive the economic and environmental recovery of the rural community and eco system.

The project through the SHG’s will identify and work with the very poorest families using the micro level planning approach (The Jana Utthan Approach). Specific economic interventions will be undertaken with such families with a view to improving their livelihood status over the project period. Economic interventions will be based upon agriculture, horticulture, livestock etc.

The project is focused upon social mobilization & women’s empowerment through Self Help Groups for addressing food security, Water, Fuel & Fodder needs along with improvement in the health and educational status of WOMEN.
